HHS Delays F6 Final Rule Effective Date

The recent change in presidential administration led to a 60-day delay in the effective date of the Final Rule naming NCPDP Telecommunication Standard Version F6 as the mandated version.  Initially set for Tuesday, February 11, 2025, HHS announced in the Federal Register that the Final Rule effective date is delayed to Monday, April 14, 2025.  Consequently, the compliance deadline with the Final Rule has been extended to Friday, April 14, 2028.

The recent HHS announcement also recognized the issue PHSL pointed out in our December 17, 2024 post.  Specifically, the Final Rule referred to an “8 month” transition period yet provided a date range that only covered six months.  The original Final Rule should have identified June 11, 2027 as the beginning of the transition period instead of August 11, 2027.  Based on this inconsistency, HHS will still need to publish another correction document updating the “transition period” dates.  PHSL anticipates that with the 60-day delay incorporated into the timeline, the transition period will begin August 14, 2027, but readers should wait for HHS to issue the technical correction for the official clarification.

Refer to the HHS posting in the Federal Register dated 2/11/2025 for more information regarding the effective date delay.  PHSL will continue to monitor for more Final Rule updates and the finalized information regarding the transition period dates.  See the original post below for the impact this change will have on the industry.
