March 2025 Results for PHSL Question of the Month

Pharmaceutical payment programs are typically managed through a combination of financial oversight, compliance monitoring, contract management, and data integration. Organizations—especially hospitals, pharmacies, and healthcare systems—use specialized processes and technologies to ensure they maximize cost savings while staying compliant with regulations. Pharmaceutical manufacturers are another organization that manages these programs but would be focused on limiting the discounted options and maximizing the higher value programs.

In the March 2025 poll, PHSL asked, “How are the multitude of pharmaceutical payment programs (340B, Direct, Medicare, GPO, etc.) managed at your organization?” The results suggest that most organizations manage pharmaceutical payment programs through internal siloed departments (67%), meaning different teams handle various programs separately rather than in a coordinated way. A smaller portion (33%) relies on separate vendors, outsourcing specific aspects of payment program management instead of handling them internally.
