The healthcare landscape is always shifting, and non-retail channels are leading the way. Non-retail segments have shown not only resilience but also expansion in the last five years. PHSL has highlighted some of the frontrunners that stand out to us since reviewing the IQVIA data from 2020 to 2025.
Clinics: Sales nearly doubled, rising from $98 billion in 2020 to $191 billion in 2025. This consistent growth reflects the ongoing expansion of outpatient infusion and ambulatory care services.
Although this may be the most volatile channel, hospitals still posted gains from $39 billion to $47 billion since 2020. While year-to-year fluctuations remain a factor, the overall upward trend remains.
Home Health Care: This segment has nearly doubled since 2020, from ~$8 billion to ~$16 billion, and it continues to accelerate. This segment is also the fastest growing and trendiest performer among the non-trail channels, as it grew 32.4% in 2025 alone.
Long-Term Care: The Long-Term Care channel showed steady progress over the last 5 years, as sales grew from $15 billion to $23 billion. With the population continuing to age, long-term care can continue so show positive gains.
A key takeaway from these four segments must be the growth of home health care. By nearly doubling in the last five years, as well as growing over 32% alone in 2025, it signals a major shift moving forward, as we are seeing that patients increasingly want to receive treatment in the comfort of their own homes. This channel is well positioned to outperform the others moving forward.
For pharmacies, distributors, and manufacturers, these channels represent major opportunities for strategic growth, focus, and investment. We will continue to monitor the evolving industry trends to help support our partners across all segments in the pharma industry. The data is clear; non-retail isn’t just growing, it is transforming the industry.
