In our December 2024 poll, PHSL asked, “The FDA has approved 43 novel drug therapies from January-November 2024. As the year comes to an end, how many novel drugs do you expect the FDA to approve in December 2024?” Complete results are as follows:
- 1-2: 1 response (11%)
- 3-4: 2 responses (22%)
- 5-6: 5 responses (56%)
- 7-8: 1 response (11%)
- 9-10: 0 responses (0%)
- >10: 0 responses (0%)
The majority of respondents expected that 5 to 6 novel drugs would be approved by the FDA in December 2024. 33% of respondents expected fewer FDA approvals and only a single respondent expected 7 to 8 novel drug approvals.
PHSL identified 7 novel FDA approvals in December 2024. NDA approvals accounted for 4 of the novel products and BLAs accounted for 3 novel products. These 7 novel approvals make up 14% (7 of 50) of the novel approvals for 2024 in only 8.3% of the year (1 out of 12 months).
